Horseshoe Crab

The horseshoe crab is often described as a living fossil on account of its resemblance to its ancient cousin the Trilobite. This item is an amazing piece of natural design at its best. It allows you to showcase this remarkable creature, and will instantly fascinate anyone who comes across it.

On one side we have the hard shell, smooth, protective, and hydrodynamic. On the underside we can see clearly the crab’s vulnerability, more like a spider than a crab when viewed from beneath.

Fascinatingly the horseshoe crab has remarkable blood which does not contain haemoglobin, a quality that means that it is harvested to be used in testing for bacterial endotoxins. This lack of haemoglobin also means that it has blue blood; which makes it a member of the ocean’s natural nobility.

This item is specially selected by award-winning designer Dagmar Holubova and features in Designer’s Atelier’s “Cabinet of Curiosities”.
