Indonesian Purple Sea Fan

Harvested from the depths of the Indian and Pacific Ocean by Indonesian divers this spectacular creature, the Gorgonian, lives as a filter feeder, catching plankton in its web of coral-like skeletal fan.

The purple sea fan survives by anchoring itself in the sea-bed, it adapts to its surroundings and so, interestingly, you can tell if a fan lived in shallow or deep water, the thicker fans coming from the shallower water where there is an abundance of food.

In this item Dagmar Holub has sourced a compelling display which exhibits the natural beauty of this wondrous creation which is brought to you as part of the Designer’s Atelier Collection of International Treasures for the Home. You will be fascinated by the structure that occurs in this unusual piece.
